Lyrics from Heart, Mind & All

The Cuckoo and the Nightingale by Kurt Henry. (loosely based on the medieval poem attributed to John Clanvowe)

I was feeling so alone.
I was livin' on my own.
I was torn up with desire;
All my senses were on fire.
I could see it from behind -
Just a shadow in my mind.
I could sense it in the air -
Within, without and everywhere.

Go out and find someone -
Love is love, it's all the same.
If you're feeling sad and lonely,
You're the only one to blame.

I heard two voices in the night,
Singing songs of mixed delight.
One was telling me to steal the day;
One was saying love was on the way.
I didn't know what I should do;
Didn't know which voice was true.
Is love just passion on the wing?
Is it a deathless song that I can sing?

Go out and find someone -
Love is love, it's all the same.
If you're feeling sad and lonely,
You're the only one to blame.

I heard two songs out in the wood;
I tried to think which one was good.
One said love was just illusion;
And I felt lost in my confusion.
And then I knew which one was true -
Which one would lead me here to you -
Which sounded sweeter in my ear -
Which one would last me through the years.

Go out and find someone -
Love is love, it's all the same.
If you're feeling sad and lonely,
You're the only one to blame.
There is someone waiting,
She's the only one for you.
Keep on searching till you find her -
You will know it when you do

The Ties That Blind by Kurt Henry
Dawning light,
Cold, hard night -
Sun through the morning fog
Is our true love's beacon;
We're gonna be alright.

By the rail,
On we sail.
In the water I see
Reflections of our madness
Our canvas is tattered, still we prevail.

On our way, singing today, this is our measure.
On our way, sailing we carry this treasure, this is our measure.

Leave behind
Ties that blind.
Harbors lie waiting -
I can almost see the faces.
What we have lost we can still find.

It can't be much longer,
We search the horizon.
I see the longing in your eyes.

On our way, singing today, this is our measure.
On our way, sailing we carry this treasure, this is our measure.

Dawning light,
Cold, hard night -
Sun through the morning fog
Is our true love's beacon;
We're gonna be alright.
We're gonna be alright.

Sunchild by Kurt Henry
To tell you how I feel tonight won't do no good, won't set things right,
I know you just can't make it anymore.
I tried to cage you with my love, but now to free you, gentle dove,
I keep myself from knocking at your door.

	Sunchild I'm livin' in a darker way:
	Sunchild your love is from another day.
	No matter what I try to do, I can't bring back the past,
	And your sunshine is slippin' from me fast.

You tell me that our love's grown cold; I slip from sunshine into coldness,
Can't seem to put my cares away.
Time goes by and all my life I'll spend alone; I won't take no wife:
In vain, I hope you'll change your mind someday.

	(chorus)

Dawn sighs for sun's child - softer than her skies -
Earth sings; Moon beams with the sunshine from her eyes.

	(chorus)

I'll travel now into the night, the darkness of the afterlight,
Away from all the good times that I knew.
The candle's burnt; the bottle's done; alone I stand without the sun
To go my way and sing my song for you.

Sunchild I'm livin' in a darker way:
	Sunchild your love is from another day.
	No matter what I try to do, I can't bring back the past,
	And your sunshine is slippin' from me fast.

Malena by Kurt Henry
In spite of all the summer heat
When she comes walkin' down the street
I just shiver
She pretends she doesn't see
She turns her head so casually
I wanna get her

When she passes by me here each day,
I just can't keep my eyes away.
I don't know what she does to me -
She knows, she does it purposely.

The way she moves inside that dress -
Hey, if she asked me I'd confess
Intentions
Should I walk out on the street
And tell her all about my sweet
Inventions?

When she passes by me here each day,
I just can't keep my eyes away.
I don't know what she does to me -
She knows, she does it purposely.

Sunglasses and that black dress oh!
How can I keep it in control
Dark lady?
Take off those glasses, show your eyes,
Look at me and mesmerize
Me baby

When she passes by me here each day,
I just can't keep my eyes away.
I don't know what she does to me -
She knows, she does it purposely.

It Is Written by Kurt Henry
He can hear it in a mountain stream;
She can see it in her deepest dream;
He can feel it on a sunny day;
She wonders why she feels this way:
It is written

He can feel it in the softest wind;
She knows her loneliness will end;
He can hear it in a summer storm;
She knows it's gonna keep them warm:
It is written

Song of summer in the air;
They can hear it everywhere.

He sings to the oak and pine;
She looks for a lucky sign;
He whispers to the silent moon;
She senses he'll be coming soon:
It is written

The coyotes cry at night;
There are shapes in the fire's light;
And they'll know that the time is right;
When the mist meets the morning light:
It is written

Song of summer in the air;
They can hear it everywhere

Whispered by the wind (It is written)
Love begins again (It is written)
Whispered by the wind (It is written)
Love begins again ( It is written)

Julia the Compleat Angler by Kurt Henry
I'm gonna spin my circle round you;
It's been so long, but now I've found you;
Your sweet desires I've uncovered:
Another world that I've discovered!

		Chorus
We'll be spinning circles into the night;
Soon you'll be holding me tight.
We'll be lovers long before dawn.
I know where you're going, and baby I'm coming!

We're gonna swim in warm, warm waters:
Learn all the joy that Nature taught us.
The liquefaction in your motion
Pulls me to your sweet, sweet ocean.

		Chorus

I circled you, but you now take me;
I'm on your line - I will not shake free;
I'm in your circle swimming to you:
Just pull me in, you'll see my love's true!

		Chorus
We'll be spinning circles into the night;
Soon you'll be holding me tigh
We'll be lovers long before dawn.
I know where you're going, and baby I'm coming

It's Enough by Kurt Henry
All over the nation, love is so sweet;
In the light and the darkness, when lovers meet
It's enough!

There's no power to stop it, when love's on the rise;
There's no legislating and no compromise.
It's enough!
It's enough!

How can it hurt anybody if two hearts are one?
Why must some love in shadows and some in the sun?
It's enough!
It's enough!

I'm in love with my woman; my woman loves me;
Love teaches us kindness; love sets us free.
Love's an intimate freedom; love has no shame:
All over the nation, love melts the chains.
It's enough!
It's enough!
It's enough!
It's enough!
It's enough!

Additional verse:
Love calls from the mountains;
Love sings in the sea;
In the warm sunny lowlands
Love seeks to be free.
It's enough!
It's enough!

Heart, Mind & All by Kurt Henry
Black velvet and pearls, firelight and shadow
Watching you swirl, my eyes can't help but follow.
You have uncovered my longing glance
I try not to stare,
And try not to care,
That he holds you so close in this dance.

Heart mind and all,
You have me in thrall;
Winsome sweet lady,
How swiftly I fall.

So near you dance, is it possible you could surrender?
Is there some chance, for your kisses so sweet and so tender?
I'm lost in shadow; you burn so bright.
There's some fire in your eyes -
Do you love or despise
That rich man who is holding you tight?

Heart mind and all,
You have me in thrall;
Winsome sweet lady,
How swiftly I fall.

I'd ship away, I would sail off to some distant country
Why should I stay, in these chains only you could take from me?
Or dance with the dagger - his blood or mine -
For what is my life
If he makes you his wife?
Velvet lady just give me the sign.

Heart mind and all,
You have me in thrall;
Winsome sweet lady,
How swiftly I fall.

Blame It On Me by Kurt Henry
I can read your lips that tell me that we've crossed this bridge before,
But I cannot hear your voice above the mighty water's roar.
We've walked this road for far too many dusty summer days;
And though I hate to say it babe, I must be on my way..

	And I'm going all alone;
	I will make it on my own;
	I've got nothing to atone for
	And there's nothing more to say.
	I'm sorry, but it's true
	That I must be leaving you.
	You're gonna find someone to follow
	In another, brighter day.
	What can you say?
	You just can't see.
	Who can you blame?
	Blame it on me.

It's not the way you gave your love that makes me wanna go.
It's not the way you look at things, or what you didn't know.
It's a point of view I haven't found; it's a sign I barely read:
It's a spot on the horizon that I've just begun to see.

	And I'm going all alone;
	I will make it on my own;
	I've got nothing to atone for
	And there's nothing more to say.
	I'm sorry, but it's true
	That I must be leaving you.
	You're going to find someone to follow
	On another, brighter day.
	What can you say?
	Your too hurt to see.
	Who can you blame?
	You can blame it on me.

It's not that I'm ungrateful for the time you spent with me:
I'm gonna miss you in the days and in the cold nights in between.
Some day I'll come back to you, but if you love me then,
Just place a guard around your heart - I'm gonna break it once again.

Leafy Friends by Kurt Henry
I feel good, swept along by soft commands
Of cool stream and warm winds and leafy friends.

The coarse robes at times to be cast aside:
Release from a lifetime of suicide.

The cool dream - full of danger and deep delight:
Ordered illusions distill the light.

An image the light's reflection brings:
Caress her - she's nothing - she's everything.

Moaning, murmurs in the wind -
I stand with my net trying to drag them in;
Rustling - the whispering of the leaves -
Is somebody warm standing next to me
Offering a cup of the distant sea?

A soft hand weaves scultpures in the breeze:
Goddess, creator of symmetry.

Free me, untie me if you can;
Teach me to shape with my shadow hand.

Moaning, murmurs in the wind -
I stand with my net trying to drag them in;
Rustling - the whispering of the leaves -
Is somebody warm standing next to me
Offering a cup of the distant sea?

I feel good, swept along by soft commands
Of cool stream and warm winds and leafy friends.

On The Border by Kurt Henry
Sinking in a daydream as the chords fall from a sweet guitar,
Dreaming songs that make me sigh.
Sea breeze that surrounds me whispers softly tells us where we are -
Makes me feel alright.

On the border of the water, sky and the ocean sand,
We sit together side by side.
Then in a while, the edges fade into white and tan:
It feels so right.

Dreaming is believing, drifting back as the music plays -
Sun warms your senses; close your eyes.
Sounds of the guitar, of the wind and the ocean spray,
And the seagulls' haunting cries.

On the border, etc.

Back from the water, your hair flows on down your skin
Past your shoulders, summer browned.
Arms reaching out pull me back where it all begins;
I awaken, then I drown.

On the border, etc.
